Cycle 1: Atma
Deep within the labyrinthine streets and alleyways of the lower Heavenly City, a resistance group calling themselves the Dharmapala met to enact a drastic plan. To combat the Heavenly City's forces, the playing field needed to be levelled. No longer would they be disadvantaged from a lack of numbers and resources; each individual would soon be able to stand up to a hundred or more of the Heavenly City's soldiers. To achieve this power, the Dharmapala would unlock the secrets of Atma, the power of gods and demons, to take on a new form with potential far beyond what any human could achieve. The risks were large, but necessary if the Dharmapala would have any chance of success.
In an instant, the world changed. Beams of light snaked through the underground to the city above, affecting not just the members of the Dharmapala, but many of the City's citizens and soldiers. Those who were struck with Atma underwent a sudden transformation into demonic forms. With these new forms also came a great hunger, a desire to devour those in their path. The door had been opened to a new world, and a chaotic and uncertain time fell upon the Heavenly City.

You will be receiving role PMs with links to your personal statblock pages shortly. Here's a brief overview of what you can do:
Increase Attributes: You will have nine stat points free to allocate (after the compulsory first point in each stat). To allocate a stat point, click on the stat you wish to increase: ST, MA, or AG. A popup box will ask you to verify your selection. There will be no tracking of how many stat points you have remaining to allocate, so be careful! Optionally, on the first day only, you may send your desired stat distribution as a reply to your role PM with your desired resistance distribution (see below).
Set Resistances: You must set up your resistances today for each of the six basic elements. Each resistance level has a different point cost: Fr(-2), Wk(-1), -(0), St(1), Nu(2); point costs for the Physical element are doubled. The total point cost across all elements can be no greater than 0 and you must have at least one element at a Wk or Fr level of resistance. To set your resistances, send your desired distribution as a reply to your role PM. If you make an illegal or no distribution, a resistance set will be randomly drawn for you.
Purchase Skills: You can increase your range of skills by purchasing abilities from the mantra grid. Hover over highlighted hexes to see the ability that can be unlocked there and its cost. To purchase a skill, click the corresponding hex and a popup box will ask you to verify your selection. (Be sure to click the center of the hex to make sure you have the correct ability.)
Set an Action and Target: Use the dropdowns to select an action from the standard actions plus any skills you may have purchased from the Mantra Grid. Applicable targets will be listed in the second dropdown once an action has been selected; actions will be resolved at day's end.
Cycle 1 will end Thursday, October 24, 7PM PDT / 10PM EDT / Friday, October 25, 2AM UTC

The Madame was not pleased. It was evident by the reflection of the fires in her shades.
Another district aflame. More terrorist bombings. What the flames didn't consume, the demonic might of the terrorists themselves did.
Their promised land was rapidly turning into hell itself.
"I tire of this madness. Enter the fray, woman. Bring me their heads."
The Madame's voice was a cold tone that would brook no dissent. The coated woman bowed her head, compelled to do as her mistress bid.
"As you will. Glory to the Center." The female straightened and turned, leaving the command center without so much as a backward glance to her decrepit superior.
Only when the door slid shut did she allow herself a thin razor-sharp smile. Her gloved hand opened and closed, sharpened nails at the ready.
"Many heads will indeed roll, and if the fates align, yours will make a fine centerpiece... Madame."
Her fist clenched, and she went down the hall, snapping her fingers to summon her most elite soldiers.
It was time to hunt.

Any notion of formality had been scattered to the winds. The battle was joined, and the woman reveled in her lust for blood.
Her elites were off trying to keep the civilians at bay, as well as keeping them from escaping. The midst of the battle, however, belonged to her.
One of them fell victim to the mob. Zandracon had been careless, and was torn asunder by a panicked group. He should have known better. No great loss.
She saw a gathering of the terrorists, in full demonic regalia, tear Spoit apart and feast on the remains. Not a pretty sight, that.
The common folk did have their uses. A local militia armed with makeshift magical firearms managed to gun down Buddha73, one of the demons, before he could even finish eating the taken arm from a fallen soldier.
They hadn't even been aiming for him, but the end result was good enough.
Her own arm finished the job, by separating his head from his soldiers with a slice from a bladed limb which could barely be regarded as anything human.
She soon noticed a focused ray of pitch-black energy from the skies above. It struck Invictus before the knight could flee, instantly turning him to stone.
A brief sneer of disappointment, then she swung her blooded arm into the former-soldier's statue, shattering what was left of him.
Elsewhere, The Anonymous was found skewered high upon a spire made of pure bladed energy. Uneaten. Whoever had slain him had no taste for flesh... merely death.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQLGKydpxt4"We must act decisively." The leader regarded the words of his lead strategist with some reluctance. Their hit-and-run tactics had served them well so far. Why risk it all on a frontal assault? Still, one of their best warriors had recently been claimed by the Society. Kime's loss would be gravely felt for some time. Blood for blood, of course. They fed upon Oats' flesh as penance. He would be the first of many. Another of the dogs of the Society was found turned to stone. None could yet explain what had become of SaberOverEasy. A mystery that would have to wait. He had even been under considerable protection, according to those who had him under observation. Apparently it made no difference. More worrisome still was the death of a stray Knight known as premium, found burnt to cinders. His ruined teeth had been identification enough. "Strange to see one left uneaten." It was certainly odd, a comment with which the commander would agree, in normal circumstances. These were hardly those. The hour was late, and it was indeed time to act. With silent consent, the commander's hand shone brightly with an emerald Atma brand. He slammed it over the center of the map. The Center's base of operations. It was time to strike.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RiHmQcHa84The incursion had struck without warning. Alarms sounded throughout the complex. Damage to outposts all throughout the base. How the devil had the rebels become so well-equipped so fast? Some had used mundane firearms, others using demonic Atma powers, but whatever their means, it had been frighteningly effective. "Casualty report." The old woman was rather calm despite her panel which was flooded with bright red notifications. " JPants found deceased after attempting to hold back the vanguard. He did not receive reinforcements in time. ObiFett found petrified, no known cause. He seems to have slain Sir Fabulous of the rebels prior to his demise.""An unacceptable cost. I expect you will not fail, Commander Langly-" " NO! I order you to stand back, reinforce the gates, REINFORCE THE DAMN GA-" Static. Seven hells. "Second outpost, have you determined 3clipse's whereabouts?" "Yes, madame. What's left of him. Limbs, mostly." DNA scanning technology never ceased to amaze. At least if nothing else, reports were that one of the enemy's lead strategists, I needed a name to post, had been taken in for questioning. He hadn't lasted longer than an hour, but that was enough. The indicator on her screen made the Madame, for once, smile. The location of the Dharmapala base. "Ready my personal guard. We crush them tonight."

www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_PfeIkfpaETheir estimations of the resistance strength had been wrong. Disastrously so. The decrepit headquarters had been easily discovered, and even easier to move in on. The Madame's elites had walked right into the maws of the beast. Baidol had been the first through the gates, and the first to be shredded asunder by the welcoming fire of their best guardsmen. Phyphor had tried the side entrance. It had been unoccupied, but the trap which severed his head from his body made up for that. Before they could manage a counter-assault, Ardor and spool32 found themselves torn apart by a single sphere of devastating light. In the chaos, no one could really be certain who had even cast the obliterating magic. Mikey CTS moved in afterward, only to be devoured whole after a massive blow of physical force tore him in half. vertroue had done well to hold out as long as she could. The creature she faced was like nothing even seen or heard of. It wasn't human or demon, or even Atma. It was something beyond her reckoning. Before she could level her gun to try another useless shot, an arm of cerulean energy struck her, and left only dust in its wake. As the creature turned and sought something else to feed its unending bloodlust, a ray of light from above put a stop to its wanton slaughter. Shortly after DasUberEdward was turned to stone, he crumbled to dust, which left behind words that those who saw would not soon forget. I come at the end of the long road. Neither human nor demon. All bends to my will.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Yf8C42uPIA"Report." She was rather calm as she tore her bladed limb out of Bedlam's torso, letting his neatly severed corpse land in two equal pieces. "Y, yes, ma'am. TheRoadVirus did not escape the front. He was gravely outnumbered." The soldier appeared uneasy. Understandable, given that his commanding officer was mostly drenched in blood. " Mill fought valiantly. We believe he caused much structural damage as he perished." "Very well. Whom did he take with him?" "That is-... I do not yet know, ma'am." "Find out. Bring evidence." "At once. Tiphareth was found... petrified. The cause did not die with the demonic one." "Unfortunate, but expected. Likely some black magic of the rebellion. It will be silenced soon enough." "Of course... ahem." He took in a breath then reluctantly looked over the report before continuing. " Gizzy, SlyM, and The Cow King, collateral damage. Believed to be from magical fallout." "Is that all?" The unpleasant sound of blades sharpening against one another. "Yes, ma'am." "Good. We depart at once. This folly is behind us. Regroup and prepare for the next offensive." The messenger left without a word. Surveying the corpses around her, the woman smiled. There would be many more, soon. Somehow, the specifics of the whom did not seem particularly important.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=TB_Al8lCKKE"We have claimed Turkson's life in the most recent skirmish." The lead strategist was calm as ever, even in the dim lighting of their new, ramshackle base. The leader was occupied with poring over the contents of the checkered map. They were engaged on multiple fronts. They had few men to spare, but keeping an enemy that massive from combining their efforts was crucial... and most effective. " Megafrost did not survive the interrogation attempts. Reports are that he devoured himself during the night." Not a pleasant mental image, that. "Enough of this. What of the damn statues?" One of the lead commanders slammed a crimson fist onto the table, his voice a ferocious mix of growls and repressed anger. "That god-damned-Sun is not what I'd call an ideal means of attack. There's no telling when it might bite us in the ass." "I am aware of the complications, thank you. Rend will make a useful specimen. For now, it suits our needs very well. The statue is already being examined for a cause, as well as potential to determine an eventual cure, should its power be brought against us." There was a moment of locked stares, before the more emotional of the two backed down and stormed out of the room, with the sound of a fist impacting against steel. "As I was about to say... we have lost Grunt's Ghosts. His soul was apparently cursed by magic most foul." The leader did not appear pleased to hear this, but remained silent. "Lastly, SeGaTai was devoured before he discovered our whereabouts. We do not believe his scouting attempt succeeded." Then the leader gave his strategist a look, and the speaker set a hand to his forehead with a downcast look. "...but... we will begin preparations to relocate." With that, the meeting was adjourned, and the evacuation began anew.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8xC-_6IvLkThe retreat came too late. Infidel's corpse was there to greet them upon their escape, thrown to the ground before the resistance in pieces. Then all hell really broke loose. Lucedes was petrified at some point, but was shattered almost immediately thereafter in the heat of the chaos. As the commander of the Society attempted to restore order, he was summarily beset upon by a pack of Atma-powered demons. Assuran barely had time to scream. The Dagon managed to crush lonelyahava's head and upper body in a single blow. Before he could devour her remains, a raging inferno of flame followed by a frozen wind scattered his remains to the blazing skies. undergroundmonorail had left their former hideout in ruins, as directed. "They're scattering. Destroy what's le-" A stray bullet went through his eye and out the back of his skull. "Now, break." The strategist commanded, and the few left made their move, each heading in a different direction, all with separate goals in mind. LoserForHireX attempted to block one of the paths of escape. The figure dashing towards him flew forward and through him. The knight was dead before his beheaded corpse hit the ground. Muladhara had fallen. Svadhisthana would yet rise.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=8t8AtV0Oov8"I did not ask for excuses. They have relocated, and they can not be far." The Society's strategic room was significantly more, in a word, clinical. Occasionally it became decorated with blood. The messenger did not desire to add truth to the fearful myth. " Tehsloth was blindsided, ma'am. His attempts at deducing their location did not turn out well. I believe... if I may, I would suggest that we act with less subtlety and more aggression." "Splendid that you are in command, then." That silenced the suggesting attempts swiftly enough. "What of the petrifications?" " blahmcblah did not return. He was left in the streets. Reports are that he is already crumbling." That was disconcerting. Perhaps rumors that the affliction was worsening were not unfounded. "And Jaenther, what of his demise?" "A hit-and-run strike at one of our outposts. We could not catch the assailants in time. Zellpher was reportedly struck down in an attempt to pursue." "You do have some good news, I trust." "Yes, ma'am. Auralynx was captured near the outskirts of the slums." "And what did you learn from him?" "...he perished, regrettably. The wounds were too grave to treat." "I see." The man was unable to observe the sharpened claws which clenched and extracted restlessly, but the sound was enough. "Bring the remains. They will suffice." He seemed to consider asking just what was meant by that. The man thought better of it, and departed after a swift bow. The clawed woman stared out over the desolate landscape which extended beyond the viewing portal. They could not hide for long. Time was not a luxury any of them possessed.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlCHdONvgQkIt had come down to this. The scarce few remaining from the resistance stared up at the building with bloodied limbs and considerable wounds. But they were alive. Egos did not withstand their assault. Rawkking Goodguy's petrified remains proved no obstacle. schuss and Kay put up a considerable fight. It took no small amount of magic usage to put the Knights down. I needed a name to post would be missed, but they knew the risks. The Society's headquarters was waiting before them. If they could get in and murder the Madame, they would crumble into dust. Of course... their most elite warriors would be waiting, too. And her. It made the red-haired one smile as he crackled his knuckles. One or more was likely broken. "Come on boys. Dinner's waiting."

www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJf7jnRQsdEThe conference room was more of an abattoir than a place of discussion. The coated woman gave a disgusted 'tsk' as she surveyed the corpses lining the floors. Drez had been the first to die, judging from the dried wounds. crimsoncoyote was given the decency of dying in one piece, if remaining as a petrified statue counted for much. El Skid's and Shalmelo's remains were nearly unrecognizable, but the uniforms were giveaways. There weren't many of their rank left. "This is leader. They're heading for the command center. All guards, move." They would not take over on her watch. Of course, it was entirely possible she would be too late to save the current leadership. Such a pity that would be.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7zvmq24SckClose-quarters combat was never pretty. Zombie Hero was the first to fall when the invaders began their assault, torn apart in a futile effort to shield the door. Locus narrowly evaded a black spiral of curse magic... once. The second struck true, and the resistance member fell to the ground, lifeless. 38thDoe was devoured in the madness by one of his own, shortly before CaptainPlanet82 was torn asunder by the few resistance that remained. Alegis would have helped his doomed compatriot, had he not been petrified. Only three remained. The final member of the resistance fought valiantly. Discrider even gave into the full might of his Atma's berserk mode, and almost took both Sepah and Preda with him to oblivion. Grave wounds were inflicted upon the last of the Society, but it was not enough. The resistance was silenced. Though grave damage had indeed been dealt. The commanders were dead. The Madame had attempted to flee, and was unceremoniously shot in the back by her chief officer. The robed woman was nowhere to be seen. Perhaps in the chaos that was left in their wake, a leaderless society with a city left torn asunder, on some level... the Resistance could have been called victorious. Let history decide who the victor was. For the moment, the survivors focused on reconstruction. Yet far above the city, the Black Sun continued to shine... Om Mani Padme Hm. Shanti, Shanti
